As of now the genetics of the Icelandic Chickens are a mystery. Many of the commonly observable factors in the genetics of domesticated fowl seem to differ in the Icelandics. The speculation, though quite interesting is thus far unsubstantiated scientifically. What may be helpful is observation within the community. We welcome you to document your personal observations, thoughts, etc. concerning the genetics of your Icelandics. Traits regarding feather colors and patterns, comb type, variations in cresting, leg feathering, lack of feathering, leg coloring, spurs, eye color, egg color, and a host of other traits may be observed in your Icelandic Chickens. The great thing about the Icelandic Chickens is that there truly are no faults. great efforts have been made in Iceland to preserve those lines most unadulterated by later introductions of "production lines." The object of preservation is to keep alive the authentic, original genetic stock as introduced by the first settlers of Iceland as far back as 867 AD. If you are posting regarding genetics, know that your observations are important. One poster may speak of dominant, recessive, and another may simply list colors as they see them, but all this can be sorted out by those with the knowledge and can then use our observations to not only determine how the genetics work, but possibly to determine the validity of theories concerning the origin of the Icelandic Chickens. So welcome and join us in our Icelandic adventure!
