I thought I had the perfect plan. I allowed one of my Icelandic roos to free range with my layers as a guard. Since we eat all of the eggs, cross breeding was not a concern. Until....My BLRW hen took off for the neighbors barn and deposited a couple of weeks worth of eggs and brought me home 15 BLRW x Icelandic chicks.
Interestingly, of the 15 chicks I obtained only 4 color variations. All white (yellow in the pic), all blue, all black and chipmunk.
Being a genetic novice, I am surprised that I did not receive more diversity.
